2 Calls

I got a call on Wednesday from the Mesa campus and they have a spot for me in the dental hygiene program! YAY!!  Now, I am just working with a bank trying to get a student loan.

I got a call on Thursday from the Boise campus and I got accepted there too but I have decided to go to the Mesa campus.  I may melt in AZ but I have family there and I will only be 6 hours from home vs 16 hours.

School starts on November 15th and I can't wait to move out to AZ.

Near future...hopefully

About a year ago, a girl moved in the ward and she had just graduated from a dental hygiene program in Boise, ID.  Of course, I asked her tons of questions and got some great advice from her.  At the time, I was in a dental assisting program in Orange County; I have now graduated from the DA program and taken the practical exam for California to become a Registered Dental Assistant.  I now just need to take the Law and Ethics Exam and the Written Exam.  This girl from my ward had told me about the school that she had gone to and I was excited about the program and the school.  So, I did my research on the school and found out that school has a campus in Mesa, AZ and I got even more excited about the program and decided that I wanted to visit the school and talk with the admissions rep there.  So, in June I schedule an appointment for an orientation meeting and called up a good friend who lives in Gilbert and got things squared away to make a trip out there.
The trip went really well.  I went to a dental hygiene orientation, talked with one of the admissions rep and I actually was able to take the 2 entrance test.  So, for the pass couple of months I have been in the application process (for both Mesa and Boise locations) and even went out to AZ to take the tests over to raise my scores.  Last week I got a call for the Mesa campus and well I didn't get accepted as one of the 30 students but I'm 4th on the waiting list.  The admissions rep said that the last 2 start dates went 10 deep in the waiting list...people drop out, can't get financial aid, don't pass the criminal background check, etc.  Because I'm 4th on the list, they have me starting the financial aid process.  At first, I was pretty upset about not being in the 30 students but I am ok right now.  I talked to the girl from my ward and she said that she was 10th of the waiting list for her start date.  Now, I'm just waiting and hoping that I start the program in November and that I can find a place to live out there with great roommates!

LOOK!! how cute but ridiculous these Carlashes are:

Friday Night Our Apron and Cookies

This is my cute sister Lauren and she is modeling the sexy Friday Night Out apron that I made.  And she is just modeling the apron (lol sorry Lauren), the delish chocolate chip cookies are made by me. I've been trying different chocolate chip recipes and have not been impressed with any of them.  Then this morning I was getting my daily dose of the Mormon Bachelorette (check it out www.themormonbachelorette.blogspot.com), and for a Sunday date they made cookies.  Since tonight was Glee night, I decided to make a treat for the family and try the cookie recipe out.  The results: I'm impressed with the recipe.  Its yummy!
Chocolate Chip Cookies

3/4 cup Sugar
3/4 cup Packed brown sugar
1/2 cup Butter
1/2 cup Shortening
2 Eggs
1 tsp Vanilla

1 tsp Baking Soda
1 pkg of chocolate chips

Heat oven to 375 degrees.  In a large mixing bowl combine sugars, butter and shortening. Mix well. Add eggs and vanilla. Mix on High for 2 minutes.  Add flour, salt, baking soda. Mix. Stir in chocolate chips.

Place dough 2" rounds on ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 9 minutes.

Pink Lemonade Cupcakes

Once a month, my ward has an FHE for the mid-single adults (25-35yrs). So, for September I thought it would be fun to make Pink Lemonade Cupcakes...kind of a farewell to summer treat. These cupcakes are so easy to make and so tasty too!  The cupcake has just a hint of lemon and the frosting is nice and tart!

Here's the recipe:

Pink Lemonade Cupcakes

1 package (18 ounces) white cake mix
3 egg whites
1 cup water
1/3 cup frozen pink lemonade concentrate, thawed
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
pink food coloring
lemon candies, for decoration

Preheat oven to 350. Line 24 muffin cups with paper baking cups.

Beat cake mix, egg whites, water, 1/3 cup concentrate, oil, and a few drops of food coloring in large bowl with electric mixer at medium speed for 2 minutes. Spoon batter evenly into prepared muffin cups.

Bake for 18 to 22 minutes or until toothpick inserted into centers comes out clean. Cool completely on wire rack before frosting.

Frosting:

1 8oz package cream cheese
1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
3 cups sifted powdered sugar
3 tbs thawed pink lemonade concentrate

Mix cream cheese and butter in a large mixing bowl with an electric mixer. Add powered sugar and pink lemonade concentrate the cream cheese/butter and mix together.

New Blog

OK, so I have decided to come back to the blog world.  The past couple months, I've been on this Martha Stewart/Betty Crocker kick.   Due to my increased LOVED for baking, I'm sure my family and friends have gained weight...sorry y'all.  OK not really sorry, because its been so yummy and fun to share the treats!

Also, in May my mom and I signed up for a sewing class at Jo Ann's...its been so much fun.  We have been in the sewing class for about 5 months now and we've made some pretty cute stuff.  For my birthday, I got my very first sewing machine...so so exciting, you have no idea.  I got a Singer Curvy.

Anyways, I thought it would be great to start a blog about my sewing and baking experiments.  I guess this blog is more so for myself as a journal/documenting type thing. Of course, the blog will have updates about my life too.  More to come soon!
